This winter, I had the distinct pleasure of photographing The St. Regis Atlanta’s iconic Christmas tree, an annual spectacular that brings joy and festive spirit to all who behold it. It’s truly a staple in the Atlanta community, drawing hundreds of families to the property to experience its magic and the activities on-site by the St. Regis. This year, the tree was adorned with a unique theme – The Nutcracker – in collaboration with Over The Moon, the wedding, lifestyle, and fashion industry’s leading source of inspiration and e-commerce. This project was more than just a photography assignment; it was an immersion into a world of festive wonder, a chance to capture the spirit of Christmas through the lens of creativity and collaboration.

A Journey Through The Land of Sweets
The 20-foot lobby tree at The St. Regis Atlanta was a visual narrative of Clara’s enchanting journey through the Land of Sweets. Each ornament, crafted by Riley Sheehey, a renowned watercolor and multimedia artist from Falls Church, Virginia, depicted various characters and scenes from the beloved holiday classic. Both Riley Sheehey and Over The Moon have an exclusive collection of darling ornaments that truly elevate any tree. The intricate details and vivid storytelling of these ornaments brought the story of The Nutcracker to life, creating a captivating display.
A Collaboration of Creativity
The tree also showcased an array of ornaments from esteemed artists such as Issy Granger and Joanna Buchanan, as well as vintage ribbons that wove through the branches, adding layers of elegance and nuance. This collaboration of artists and their unique styles created a tree that was not just a decoration but a masterpiece of festive artistry.
The Astor Chalet: A Swiss-Inspired Haven
Adding to the holiday magic, The St. Regis welcomed back The Astor Chalet for its second year. Designed by Keith Summerour and constructed with reclaimed hardwoods, this Swiss-inspired chalet offered a cozy retreat right in the heart of Buckhead. The lobby, with its magical Christmas pop-up shop called Lucy’s Market, the chalet was a focal point for holiday shoppers and those seeking a little warmth and cheer.
A Meeting with Alexandra Macon
A highlight of this project was the opportunity to meet Alexandra Macon, the founder of Over The Moon. Capturing her and her family in front of the exquisite tree was a delight. They were dressed in beautiful holiday attire, featuring tartan patterns, smocked dresses, and a stunning red dress worn by Alexandra herself. The family’s attire complemented the festive backdrop perfectly, embodying the joy and elegance of the holiday season.
A Photographic Tribute to the Season
Photographing each ornament and the overall ambiance of The St. Regis during this festive season was a joy. There’s something so special about delving deep into the art of holiday decoration and capturing the essence of Christmas in this beautiful city of Atlanta.
