I’ve been friends with Julia since the 5th grade and remember our sleepovers where we would share our dreams and talk about the person we’d marry.

Julia said “yes!” to the man of her dreams at the Atlanta History Center Swan House earlier last month on the front lawn with the historic manor in the background. The morning light was golden and absolutely breathtaking. It was truly one of my favorite days.

 

Some tips for planning the perfect proposal:

• Reach out to the photographer before picking a date or location. The photographer can help advise on the best spot, timing, and lighting, to ensure for the most beautiful photos.
• Have an idea of the type of photograhpy coverage you want. Photographers will charge based on the hours of coverage they are contracted for. To get an idea of cost, here are a few ideas of the types of offerings that are typical:

 

• • Proposal only: capturing the proposal only.
  • Proposal + session: Proposal and a couples’ portrait session afterwards to show off the new ring, location, and more.
  • Proposal, session, and event: Some fiancé’s host a dinner or celebration right after the proposal, and want coverage and additional photos with family and friends.

 

• Once you are ready to book the photographer, you will often be sent a contract to sign electronically, as well as an invoice to complete.
• Hop on a call with the photographer to discuss your goals, aesthetic, and plan. It’s always helpful to connect on a FaceTime call to do a walkthrough of where you plan to stand, and talk through logistics of where you will approach “the spot” from.
• Share your location with the photographer on the day-of the proposal. This way, the photographer will be able to see if you are, by chance, running behind schedule, and not have to blow up your phone or cause further suspicion.
• After the proposal, your photographer will often send you preview photos, and a full gallery of images to enjoy. 🙂
